History
Raufoss Fuel Systems was in an early phase a part of Raufoss Technology’s product
and technology development department. The main focus was development of high
performance missile structures, mainly for military applications. In the 1990’ies,
the focus turned to high-pressure cylinders and automotive/commercial applications.
Since the first new lightweight CNG cylinders were introduced to the market in
1992, the program has been running continuously with deliveries for both bus and
truck applications. Raufoss has delivered complete storage systems for personal
cars since the late 1990s, and in 2003 RAFS delivered its first hydrogen storage
system. All these products were based on T3 cylinder technology.
Raufoss Fuel Systems was sold to Hexagon Composites ASA, an Oslo stock exchange
listed company on March 1-2003 from Raufoss ASA, where it the last few years were
a part of the automotive business unit.
In 2005, Raufoss introduced its new storage systems with Type 4 cylinder technology
based on Lincoln Composites’ proven Tuffshell® concept. This has enabled Raufoss
to offer both weight reductions and more cost-effective storage systems than in
the past.
